The OECD includes the Bicibús as one of the transport policies for decarbonization

The Bicibús is becoming a trend. The OECD includes the Bicibús as one of the transport policies for the decarbonization of the mobility system in Catalonia.

In a collaborative effort to accelerate the decarbonization of the mobility system in Catalonia, the Generalitat of Catalonia and the OECD have joined forces to carry out a systemic study.

The objective of this study is to identify public policies with the potential to transform and reduce emissions in the passenger transport sector while improving quality of life. The results of this report will contribute to the creation of a shared agenda for a sustainable mobility system and will be presented in the last quarter of this year 2024.

This proposal is presented as a discussion forum between relevant local actors and the OECD team.

Among other things, the proposal aims to study:

  • The vision of a sustainable transport system, both throughout Catalonia and in four specific territories: the Metropolitan Area, Camp de Tarragona, Costa Brava, and Alt Pirineu i Aran.
  • The root causes of high emissions and extensive automobile use.
  • The transformative potential of current actions, as well as the inconsistencies and synergies between actions.
  • The role of governance in activating systemic change.
  • Options and alternatives to implement transformative policies.

The inclusion of the Bicibús as part of these strategies highlights the importance of innovative and sustainable solutions in the search for a greener and more livable future.

It is a recognition of the effectiveness of the Bicibús not only as a sustainable mobility measure, but also as a vital instrument for decarbonization and improving the quality of life in urban and rural areas. This is a key moment for the advancement of the Bicibús and a call to action for communities and governments interested in promoting cleaner and more sustainable mobility.
